1-720-708-1000 is a SCAM

It has been a while and yes I have neglected my responsibilities to this blog. So thus I begin again.
Last night my wife answered the phone the number on the display was 1-720-708-1000 and on the other end was a guy claiming we had a computer malware problem. We needed to login and follow his instructions to fix it. YEAH RIGHT! SURE! When my wife firmly said, “NO I AM NOT DOING THAT.” The foreign accented guy started yelling at her! Gee that ID Thief has some personal skills issues to work on.
However, not every thief is as ill skilled. Be Aware that this type of fraud is rampant and they will call you at home.  Just hang up and if they call again, use an air horn!

Update: Please share your experience as a comment.  I would love to hear how these vile creatures attempted to steal your information.  Plus it will be instructive for the hundreds of other visitor hitting this page each week.

My father calls me from out of country and this number shows up. Maybe the thiefs you are talking about have their numbers routed through this one as well, intentionally or not.

Twice in one day, today. Same number. (Female robot) voice just says GOODBYE. Star69 comes back to same Colorado number as caller ID: 720-708-1000. Today I complained to Rochester, N.Y. Excellus BlueCross BlueShield about robot survey calls everyday, & only got a DUNNO response when asking them to stop the abusive harassment. Now I get DOUBLE the robot calls, & India scammer hangups too. They will not answer company name, address, or phone number questions. Thank NeoCon Reagonomics for eliminating most all Federal regulatory oversight agencies to protect the consumer. Shrink wrap in my Dole spinach bag leaves & plastic bristles in my cheese. NEVER eat in the dark anymore. SEC is reportedly watching porn, & the FDA, DOA, & OSHA are too under-funded, under-staffed, & under-capable for enforcement. Maybe I should reenlist! Semper Fi!

Received the call from this number. The guy asked for the president of our company. He called him by his proper name, the only people who do that are telemarketers so I asked to take a message. He got snippy and said tell him Noble is calling and he'll take my call. I told him he was out of the office and he just said pfff and hung up. Not sure what he's selling but he won't be getting through.

Received a call just like the first comment - my computer had been sending error messages and this heavily accented fellow was going to help me remove the viruses. I asked a few questions, like "Do you work for Microsoft" (he said he did), and "Why doesn't Microsoft show up on the caller ID?" He said something lame like they had just been assigned that bank of numbers and that's why the name didn't show up. When he asked me to go on Internet Explorer, I asked for a phone number so I could call back after talking to my tech support person because this is my work computer. He then asked if the computer belonged to the company and when I said yes,he hung up.

Received a call from this number and the caller asked for the owner very abruptly. When I asked what company he was with he told me Kennedy & Associates. I asked what the call was in regards to and he told me "A Dallas Account" so I asked if he could be more specific and he rudely said "How more specific can I be?" I said more specific than "A Dallas Account" He interrupts me and says, "Why don't you just tell Scott that I am holding on the line and he WILL take my call." So I put him on hold and asked the owner if he was expecting a call from this person and naturally he said no. So I pick up the line for the caller and say sir? I get back..."OH MA GAW" To which I answered, "He is not interested in taking your call have a good day!" and hung up. I wanted to tell him you can attract more bees with honey!

A friend of mine from Philippines tried to phone me this morning using Skype to my SkypeIn phone #, and the phone number 1-720-708-1000 showed up on the display. So the origination phone # could be ANYONE, ANYWHERE - the phone number seems to simply be a Skype forwarding number.

I just received a call from "Keith" from an energy company he asked to speak to the person that pays the gas bill...I advised him he was speaking with that person and requested politely that he remove my number, he said he would and then proceeded to ask if I am aware that he was trying to save me money...I advised him that I am asking politely for the 2nd time that he remove my number, he again said he would then asked me if I was aware of the my right to choose a gas company, I then advised him that I have asked nicely twice and that our conversation was over and to remove my number, he then stated that he would call back later and hung up. He apparently had no intention of removing my number and didn't like that I was actually polite.

Must be a routing nummber. I just received a female robo-call saying my prescription was ready. Sounded just like the female robo-caller that usually lets me know when prescripts are ready but number usually is my local pharmacy.

Anonymous political rants aside, Reagan had nothing to do with this. Get a clue and get a life. Everyone else, just don't answer the call. The jerk called me last night 15 mins after I went to bed and I looked online this morning since I didn't answer not recognizing the number.

Seriously, if any political figure is to blame, it's Obama. I've noticed the past few years that people aren't even bothering to use DNC registry filters like I was required to do when I worked in insurance 6-8 years ago. I don't think the Obama administration even enforces it, unless it's a white person bothering a black one. THEN, Eric holder MIGHT take action because it's bothering "His People."

I just got a 3 calls in succession, 1st to my cell said number blocked, 2nd to my home line which had the phone number 720-708-1000 and Denver Co, then they called my business line which came up as Private caller!! How the heck did they get all my numbers? I didn't answer, as I prefer to screen unknown callers.

Just received a call from this number, the caller was a robot from "Beneficial Savings Bank" (which used to be in my neighborhood), saying my account has been suspended due to an attempt to access my account from an unknown party. I hung up because I was never with Beneficial Bank.

I just got a call from this creep, someone from India, could barely understand him and he told me (he knew my name) that he was from windows microsoft and my computer was infected with viruses and he was going to walk me through to get them out.
I knew this was a scam but I wanted to see how far he would go and he told me to click the start button and go up to computer and right click on computer and open manage and tell him what I saw. By then I screamed at him and told him I was having the phone traced and he was going to be in big trouble! LOL He started saying fu#k over and over until I screamed at him again and just hung up. The number on my ID says Denver Co 720 708 1000. I even called it back and it gives a busy signal. I really would like to know how he got my name. Creepy!

hahahahaha i just delt with this asshole ...he sent me $5000 in my paypal in hopes i would send it back by money gram western union ...but little did he know that i researched the number and when he called my house and transferred the money ...i had no intentions of sending it back to him lmao he bought my car on ebay that i was selling and thought he was gonna be slick but i got him good lmao

I have been getting calls all day from this number to my cell phone. It's obviously an international call (from India judging by the accent) that is routed through Denver. This idiot screamed profanities at me when I refused any info and told him to never call me again. I wish I knew how these idiots got my number. So frustrating!!

Anonymous said...

Just to let you folks know: for some reason, this number (among others) has come up on my parent's caller ID when I've tried to call them. So yeah, I'm not sure what's up. Just, y'know, don't assume that everything coming from this number is malicious. Weird stuff.

I believe that these calls are being routed through a wholesale VoIP Trunk Provider out of Denver, CO by the name of Teliax. (www.teliax.com).

We are customers of Teliax and I know that if our SIP headers are misconfigured on our PBX, the caller ID will show up as 720-708-1000.

You might want to try sending the guys at Teliax a support request via their website and see if they would search for the perpetrator in their call logs. I know for certain that these uses are against their TOS. The guys at Teliax are very helpful and would likely help you dig to verify.

I keep getting calls from this number, and they never answer when I pick up. Tried calling it back, and they hang up without saying a word to me. Then they called me from an Unknown number as well as an international number. The international just called two seconds ago, I answered, and it was an Indian guy, and I asked to take my number off of his call list and to never call me again, and he hung up.

I would like to add that I received a call from that same number 720-708-1000 but it turned out to be someone from Peru (south america) using a calling card to the U.S. So it appears that the ghost-number has multiple functions.... for an anonymous prank group that wants to steal identities and a South american Calling card that goes under that number ID

Anonymous said...

Thanks to all of you, I won't answer these calls. I will not pick up the phone if caller is blocked or anonymous, but I do immediately google the number. Thanks again!

Got a call this morning from a "private number" twice from the same guy saying I won a prize and I needed to send money (gag!). When I told him I would believe him when he delivered the prize to my house, he asked for my address (yeah, right!). I told him this was a scam and not to call me anymore. He called back with the 720 number and asked me if I said it was a scam. I told him yes and to again stop calling. Glad you are all posting about this so that we can get the word out.

A foreign guy with SEVERLY broken English called saying he worked for Microsoft and that he was calling to tell me MY computer was sending out a virus to all sorts of computers. I told him I am pressing "ONE FOR ENGLISH". He said he would put me on hold and transfer me to his supervisor. He just "handed the phone" to someone. He repeated what the first guy told me. TOld him my I.T. Company had just left my home (which they did - installed some new equipment)and that there is NOTHING wrong with my computer - the Owner of my I.T. Company is a microsoft instructor. He got very snotty and I just hung up! Honestly what these people don't do for samming!

That number called my house this evening and when I answered the phone, the caller requested me as "Mrs. Ex". I had a hunch this was bogus because I don't use that name anymore so I said, "She doesn't exist anymore." They mumbled something and hung up.
Earlier in the day I got three automated voicemails within the same minute announcing my eligibility for lowered rates on my credit cards. The message had been left before, but never three within a minute. Such harassment!

When I informed him he was not in the office and would he like to leave a message he further asked for his mobile number. When I informed him I did not have that number he hung up on me!

An Indian woman called my clinic saying we would be getting 30% off our next phone/internet bill. She verified my name, position, dob, phone, fax and address three times. She would say my information and make me say yes or no loud and clear after each piece of information. She didn't ask for an account number or anything. Now I'm wondering what these people are up to.

I apparently received a call from this number while I was away working. They left no message, so I was curious who the number belonged to and came across this page via Google.

Even thought it looks like the number can be used by anyone as a routing number, it's interesting to see the high number of telemarketers and scammers that claim to be calling from it.

I received a call from a heavily accented Indian male caller who said something about a slow computer.

I asked who he was and how he got my number, but got an unintelligible response, so I hung up. When i called the number back later to ask to be removed from his list, I received a recorded message with coded numbers spoken very fast. It sounds like "This is dnvrco26ps1 operated by 567g".

That night I filed a complaint with the national "do not call" registry, and also found this forum. Someone here mentioned Teliax, so I sent them an email. Craig Berryman from Teliax replied:

"Teliax is a legitimate, VoIP Telephone company. We have many retail and Wholesale customers and will determine which customer called you. If the customer is not sending a valid ANI/CID we allow for the following ANI to pass "720-708-1000". This means that the customer calling you using our service is not sending a valid CID. Teliax will do our best to locate the customer in question and tell them to no longer call."

After some emails back-and-forth, Craig replied, "We were able to contact the malicious party and tell them to stop."

So if you receive one of these calls I suggest providing Teliax with these pieces of information:
1. your number (the one the caller called)
2. caller ID number reported by your phone
3. the time of day the call took place, including your time zone.

This number called me and the guy said hello like 5 times so I asked him how many times he was going to say hello, and then he said it again and called me a son of a Bitch... So I called him a camel jockey he then replied by calling me a nigger. I laughed and asked him why he prays to a rug and that must have struck a nerve because he hung up on me... I hope to find out who this is and how I can call then back so I will be able to constantly harass them the way they do me.

There's a much bigger issue here than "who called from (720) 708-1000. You see, the Caller ID service we have come to rely on (and pay so dearly for) can no longer be trusted. A caller can have your Caller ID display anything at all. Even worse, an improperly configured private telephone system can identify itself as any company with any telephone number. The trusted caller ID days are over.

Here's something weird. I was called yesterday from Coris USA, a legitimate travel insurer that sends me to make housecalls. Today, glancing at my recent calls, I noticed that caller ID had identified the caller as "American Assist," a different but also legitimate travel insurer. And the number on ID was 720-708-1000. I called it several time to straighten out my confusion but only heard a recorded message "This is DMVRCO26P operated by 567G." Does anyone know what that means?

I got a call today from 720-708-1001 and the caller (thick Indian accent) said I had 3 UPS packages coming from Cisco. I told him just deliver them and he started pushing for information about me, what department I worked in, etc. He asked if I was expecting the packages so I told him it didn't matter if I was to just deliver them as someone else could have ordered them.

Seems like another phishing scam.
